BBT
energy for Bonaire
Termination of BBT’s Activities
Following the earlier termination of BBT’s activities relating to fuel supply on Bonaire, the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth and BBT have jointly examined BBT’s future. The evaluation has shown that the use of BBT as a state-owned company is not the optimal policy instrument for the Dutch State to pursue the transition to sustainable energy on Bonaire.
In the coming period, BBT will take the necessary steps to cease its activities in an orderly manner, transfer its assets and settle its liabilities. This includes the transfer of BBT’s participation in the solar field on Bonaire to an energy company on the island. The aim is to preserve the existing positive effect on electricity tariffs for end users.
Upon completion of the aforementioned process, BBT’s remaining funds will flow back to the budget of the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth. The Dutch government intends to use these funds to further improve the sustainability and affordability of the electricity supply on Bonaire.
The Dutch government remains fully committed to making Bonaire’s electricity supply more sustainable, alongside safeguarding affordability, security of supply and safety.
